Niche marketing makes for successful marketing. You hear over and over again that the fastest way to success is to focus on niche marketing. So, just what exactly is this?
Niche marketing is a subset of marketing focused on a specific portion of a market. The market niche defines the specific product feature aimed at satisfying the particular market needs. Another way to look at this type of marketing is to see it as a specialty, or more narrowly defined part of a broader market.
Take, for example, the cleaning business. Cleaning businesses can include cleaning office buildings, houses, windows, and about any kind of surface or structure you can imagine. That can be a very broad market. A niche market in the cleaning business could be cleaning foreclosures. Do you see the difference?
A key to being successful in any niche market is to establish yourself as knowledgeable in the particular niche you have chosen. For you to gain the confidence of your customers, you need to be seen as an expert. So, if you are in the business of cleaning foreclosures, you will want to know the specifics of what is required by the bank or lending institution to be considered clean enough to be marketable. Even more than that, you will need to know about different cleaning products as well as effective cleaning methods.
This doesn’t mean you need to know it all before you enter into a niche market. The truth is, anyone can become an expert at just about anything. There is a wealth of information available on almost any topic you want to know about. You can access information in a variety of formats including CD’s, online courses, webinars, seminars, workshops, newsletters, and the Internet. There is virtually an unlimited number of ways to tap into the information you need.
One good way to get information on a specific niche is to read issues of specialty magazines that relate to your particular area. Another thing you can do is find ads related to your niche and order information. One of the most powerful, and one of my favorites, is to find an expert close to where you live, and find a way to talk with them directly. Most people are more than willing to share their knowledge if approached in the right way.
One more valuable method is to go to the public library and search the database for books, articles, and other resources. Make it a point to find experts in your chosen niche and study what they have done as well as what they have to say. This is a sure-fired way to avoid a lot of mistakes.
Make a commitment to spend some time each day learning about your marketing niche. Before long you’ll find you have the answers to the questions people are looking for. In a short time, you will establish yourself as an expert in your niche.
