What is Dungeons and Dragons?
Dungeons and Dragons, or D&D, is a roleplaying game that takes place in an imaginary world populated by characters and monsters. Players assume roles of fantasy heroes, including clerics, mages, fighters, thieves, etc., and explore dungeons where they have to fight monsters like orcs or ogres. They also interact with non-player characters who might offer clues for solving problems. The game often ends when the player has achieved some goal but may go on if there are other goals remaining.
Who are the demogorgons?
Demogorgons are among the most powerful creatures in D&D, as well as one of the few creatures not originally in D&D canon. The first thing that comes to mind when you see this creature is its bizarre form, but this definition masks a greater understanding of what exactly it can do.
It was created by Gary Gygax, co-creator of D&D, and introduced in Supplement III: Eldritch Wizardry published in 1976. It was taken from Lewis Padgett’s short story The Snout, about a weirdly deformed captive in an ancient temple who has no eyes or mouth.
In-Game Experience with Demogorgons
Demogorgons are notoriously brutal creatures. If a player enters a battle with one, their combat dice will be limited due to having only half of their hit points. They also have another special ability in which they may roll for themself and each other nearby creature that does not have 50% or more of its hit points at the end of your turn. Creatures that fail this save are killed on the spot!
Does D&D Cause Anxiety?
dungeons and dragons gifts as a tabletop game has been around for many years. And, there are a lot of studies coming out showing that D&D could cause anxiety in players. For example, one study found that 11% of students surveyed reported high levels of cognitive dissonance after playing Dungeons and Dragons.
