I’ve heard every excuse why someone doesn’t want to join a network marketing opportunity.
Almost every one of those excuses is just that – an excuse.
I spent years being anti-MLM (multi-level-marketing). I know every excuse because I used them. I admit it much to my regret.
So what are these excuses?
It is a scam.
You got to get in early.
It is already too late.
I don’t want to have to sell stuff to my family and friends.
Everybody who joins an MLM ends up with a garage full of “stuff.”
It’s just another form of chain letter.
It’ll be over just when I make it into the money.
I don’t trust them.
The products are all over-priced.
Nobody has ever heard of ______________ (name of product).
If this is so good why haven’t I heard about it before?
While there are literally thousands of Direct Selling Network Marketing Opportunities, some of them probably are scams. Human nature is what human nature is after all. But that doesn’t mean that all Network Marketing Opportunities are scams. Most are NOT scams. You just have to do your “due diligence,” or you have to trust the person who is referring you.
Network Marketing is a legitimate means of promotion and distribution. Amway is not a scam. Mary Kay is not a scam. They, and many others, produce good products and sell them at a fair price. I should have joined Amway 20 years ago instead of hiding behind my excuses. Oh well!
Timing is important. When a Network Marketing Opportunity is “mature,” it is harder to find new associates. Everybody has already “looked” at the opportunity. They may have rejected it for all the wrong reasons, but reject it they did. Overcoming that rejection is a lot harder than showing somebody something new.
Every Network Marketing Opportunity “teaches” selling to your warm market. That is to say your family, friends, and everybody within five feet of you.
I don’t think that works all that well.
I subscribe to the idea that it is easier to sell to somebody who seeks you out. It is what is known as “attraction marketing.”
Think of a mouse trap as attraction marketing. You want to catch the mouse. You set the trap and you place a nice piece of cheese on the trigger. The mouse is attracted to the bait, and VOILA you catch the mouse. That has got to be better than chasing the mouse around the kitchen with a butcher knife. Attraction Marketing works!
I don’t want a garage full of stuff and I’m not going to sell stuff to my family and friends. A good Network Marketing Opportunity won’t make you sell stuff. They will handle all the sales. You just introduce the buyer to the company. After all, that is what you have been doing for years. You tell people about restaurants, movies, books, attractions, stores, and other things you like. Now a good Network Marketing company will pay you for that referral. You will be getting paid for what you do anyway. A perfect fit.
A good Network Marketing Opportunity will provide products at a fair price. The retail price structure should be the same or better than comparable products found in the marketplace. After all, the commissions paid to the members are just the costs and profits the normal distribution channel would get. If you could buy it at Costco, then Costco would make a profit. They don’t sell it for free. They would also have costs associated with getting, stocking, and selling the product. Those monies become available for commissions in a Network Marketing Opportunity.
Would you prefer to give those profits to Costco, their employees, the shipping companies, and the TV networks that advertise the product, OR would you prefer to pay yourself? That is the choice.
And as for the idea that nobody has ever heard of it, that is the opportunity. If the product is good you are going to make your money by telling others about it. If you want to “sell” a product everybody already knows then open a store and sell that name brand Cola.
