When using a PSP, there comes a moment when purchasing new games truly strains the wallet. If you’ve played PSP games for a while, you’ll know what I mean.
The typical PSP player typically spends more than $40 per month on PSP games and PSP accessories (source: A UK PSP Magazine). You only need to do the math to see that it comes out to about $500 a year.
Naturally, you want to purchase PSP games as cheaply as you can, preferably “free,” if you’re on a tight budget. My interest was peaked when a coworker mentioned to me that she could download PSP games for a fraction of what I was spending for them.
I searched “free PSP game download sites” after leaving that evening and found page after page of websites advertising free downloads. I believed I had made it big. I discovered that several of the “free” sites weren’t actually free when I opened a few of the links. Many of the websites were only “cons,” in actuality.
I won’t really cite the websites, but these free sites fell into two groups. Allow me to clarify.
CATEGORIES 1
I learned that these websites were peer-to-peer (P2P) in nature. This means that “you” can tap into the users of these sites who are now playing games online or downloading games. Although this definition is pretty basic, it will suffice for now. If you do choose to download a game from a website like this, you can experience numerous issues that end up costing you a significant sum of money. Owners of these websites frequently infect them with spyware, malware, and Trojan horses. The owners of the websites are aware that many customers who genuinely want free games will take the chance and download the file to their PC before moving it to their PSP. As a result, the laptop or computer gets sick. Although it is uncommon, some of these Trojans and viruses do not become active until they are transmitted to the PSP. Why take a chance?
Don’t get me wrong, there are websites that offer high-quality downloads for free, but they are quite uncommon and difficult to find. Be cautious while utilising blogs because occasionally dishonest website owners will post to them to drive traffic to their own websites.
The primary complaints about these websites centre on the file quality and, in particular, the length of time required to download each file. As the websites are free, neither site owners nor users have any incentive to spend money on modems and software that would facilitate downloads. Even though you may have DSL, the majority of these sites only support modem speeds of 15 K, therefore the time it takes to download the game depends on their connection speed. Some games reportedly take three days to download; I wonder how much this would add to your phone bill.
CATEGORIES 2
This category might be thought of as a “halfway house” answer. In my search for a free or less expensive alternative, I came across websites that offered free game downloads, but when I clicked to download, a popup would appear requesting that I sign up for a monthly membership. The monthly fee for this membership varied from $7 to $16. This was not the answer I desired because it was a far more expensive alternative.
In reality, I believe that it was a cunning attempt to “cook” me out of a lot of money. I must admit that I was rather irritated. As I did not want to sign up for a monthly membership and only wanted a website that would let me download things for free, I am unsure of the calibre of the downloads offered by these sites.
After over a week of looking, I came to the conclusion that “free” in the sense I was looking for was not actually free. I assume that you get what you pay for, and because you’re not paying anything, it stands to reason that if you want something for nothing, you’re probably not going to receive value for your money. And you, too?
When I told my coworker about this epiphany, she told me that she had joined a site that allowed unlimited game downloads because her son’s incessant requests for new games were costing her a fortune. She purchased the membership, and as a result, her kid may now download games that pique his interest.
I then inquired about the cost of this membership from her. As I tallied up all the fees, I was anticipating it to be at least $100 or more because that’s what I appeared to discover online. I was taken aback to learn that it only cost $37!
